The partnership between the IL Department of the American Legion and Nonprofit Nest successfully launched their joint statewide apparel fundraiser at the state convention in Springfield. The launch has proven to be a remarkable success, with the onboarding of over 40 American Legion Posts throughout Illinois in the first week and growing daily as more Posts are finding value in the “no cost, no effort” fundraiser model shared from the convention podium. These posts have gained access to a novel fundraising method, having their own custom apparel stores with each item raising funds for their local causes. These storefronts not only increase the visibility of each post, but also act as an efficient tool to raise funds for the post’s respective local unit and squadron, and the broader IL Department of the American Legion.

The convention served as an incredible platform to showcase this new initiative. The enthusiasm and widespread adoption among the legion posts indicate a promising future for this approach. The unique mix of fundraising and brand identity building offered by these custom apparel stores provides an unmatched advantage. A minimum of 20% is donated back to the local Post’s from the custom apparel sales that directly fuel local Post initiatives, fostering a supportive ecosystem.
The triumph at the Illinois Convention is just the beginning. This convention success story is set to be replicated as a model to inspire similar efforts in other states. By doing so, we aim to empower every American Legion post across the country, amplifying their capabilities and outreach.
